[Nfb-web] question about NFB web sites and Affiliates chapters

Taylor, this is a good question. Others have wisely noted the economies of scale in funding and managing a single site. From an organizational standpoint, a single affiliate web presence that provides information about each chapter (even if it's a lot of information) is strongly desirable. It's important to make clear that each chapter is part of a larger affiliate organization. A single site also ensures that the state affiliate is controlling the branding and messaging, as well.

If you host the affiliate website using a Content Management System (CMS), whether it's Drupal or another tool, you should have flexibility in the permissions you give to users. If the talent in your affiliate exists, you might consider giving some (or all) chapters access to their page(s) only, allowing them to maintain their own content. The affiliate webmaster can still retain control for the publishing of content if that is desirable. The decision to implement such a model should, of course, be made at the affiliate board level.

Regards,
John

Subject: [Nfb-web] question about NFB web sites and Affiliates chapters

Hello,
Sorry for the broad subject line but have an interesting question.
Yesterday, I was approached by some people from the Detroit Michigan chapter about having their own website apart from the NFB Michigan one. First off, am I even aloud to do this? They are saying they want their own site because they have a big chapter and have lots of
content that would make the website all Detroit related stuff. As
Michigan is trying to redo the state site, Detroit got the idea.
Being a new web master, I don’t know all of the rules and regulations regarding this manner so any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Taylor
