Dear Federation Family:

On Monday, November 1, we issued a legislative alert asking all of you to
contact Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer urging them to restore
the Access Technology Affordability Act (ATAA) to the Build Back Better
(BBB) Act. While our response was strong—we estimate hundreds of emails
were sent to each office—the ATAA was, unfortunately, not restored.

Currently, the House version of the BBB is waiting for a Congressional
Budget Office score and is likely to be passed by the House during the week
of November 15. The good news for us is that the Senate is extremely likely
to change the BBB before passing it. This means we have an opportunity to
get the Access Technology Affordability Act back in the bill.

As a result, we are updating our request from the November 1 legislative
alert. First, if you have not already sent your email to Speaker Pelosi or
Majority Leader Schumer’s office, please do so. Additionally, if your
individual Senator or Representative has not cosponsored the Access
Technology Affordability Act, please ask them to do so. The more support
the ATAA has in the House and Senate, the better our chances will be to
have it included in the Senate version of the Build Back Better Act.

When you call or email, you might say the following:

"Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a constituent of
[SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE NAME]. I live in [CITY, STATE]. I would like to
urge [SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE NAME] to cosponsor the Access Technology
Affordability Act, S. 212/H.R. 431. This legislation removes an employment
barrier commonly experienced by blind Americans who cannot afford the high
cost of access technology by creating a refundable tax credit in the amount
of $2,000 to offset the cost of this technology.

Thanks."

A current list of Senate and House cosponsors is below. You can contact
your member of Congress by calling the Capitol Switchboard and asking for
the office in question. The number is 202-224-3121. We have also attached
contact lists for Senate and House offices to this email. If you email your
senators, please copy Jeff Kaloc at jkaloc at nfb.org. Your calls and emails
do make a difference.

Thank you for all that you do,

John

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
