The Phoenix chapter of the National Federation of the Blind invites you and
your family to walk for independence and to picnic with us October 1.
Monica Nunez is waiting for a word from you! She is keeping track of who is
joining the fun and who is bringing what so that we can be sure to have
enough food for everyone. Don’t go hungry on October 1, reach out to Monica

Picnic Details

When: Saturday, October 1, 2022 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Where: Margaret T. Hance Park, 67 W. Culver St., Phoenix, AZ 85003, West
Ramada

Note: Enter the park from 3rd Ave and Culver St. The West Ramada is next to
the swing set and is a few feet from the parking lot.

The festivities will start with a celebratory walk on a paved path at the
park followed by lunch, fun, games, and door prizes. Join in the
celebration by doing any or all the following:

The Phoenix chapter is providing the meat. You are invited to contribute a
side dish that is either homemade or store bought. We are also looking for
contributions of supplies, condiments, and individually packaged desserts.
Scroll down to find a list of suggested items. Contact the food coordinator
by Monday, September 26 to firm up your contribution and to allow for us to
plan a nice variety of side dishes. Please include allergy information with
your planned contribution. This will help our friends with allergies attend
without hesitation.

Volunteer your time and energy for any of the following:
Food Handlers: to avoid extra exposure to COVID, we are assigning a few
people to prepare each plate as you make your selection from the buffet of
options. This will reduce the transfer of germs spread by shared utensils.
Serve as a talking sign on the walking path.
Help with party set-up and or clean-up.
Don’t have time but want to help with expenses? Consider donating cash to
help off-set the cost of food and fun by bringing a monetary donation to
the picnic.
40 People have already mentioned that they are planning to attend. Some
have not yet decided on their contribution. The following list is designed
to help you make a choice. Enjoy!

Items Needed:

Bottled Water (2 to 4 Cases)

Soda (Cans or bottles)

Bags of Ice (4 to 6 Bags)

Hamburger Buns

Hot dog buns

Condiments (Mustard, Ketchup, Mayo)

Cheese slices

Individually wrapped Dessert such as cookies or rice Krispie’s

Side Dish such as Potato salad

Paper Bowls

Aluminum Foil

Wet Wipes for cleaning the tables

Door prizes will be given out throughout the event. Wear your NFB swag and
you will be entered to win a prize. We are also holding a 50/50 raffle to
raise funds for the chapter. Enter to win by purchasing a ticket for $1 or
by buying 6 tickets for $5.
