Subject : Appointment of Chief, Independent Living and Assistive
Technology Section
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jay Harris as the Chief of the
Independent Living and Assistive Technology Section.
Jay joined the Department of Rehabilitation over one year ago as Program
Manager for the Older Individuals who are Blind program. Prior to his state
service, Jay worked for Independent Living Services of Northern California,
an Independent Living Center (ILC) serving eight counties, for fourteen
years. As Assistant Director, Jay was responsible for grant administration,
program oversight and accountability, and staff supervision among other
duties. Jay's management experience at a successful non-profit ILC and more
recently in OIB grant management at the state level will contribute greatly
to the independent living, traumatic brain injury, and assistive technology
programs in California.
Jay also brings personal experience as a member of the blind and visually
impaired community in California and is known as a strong advocate,
well-versed in disability policy, programs, and services. Jay earned a
Bachelor of Social Work degree from California State University, Chico.
We believe Jay's passion and dedication will be an excellent addition to our
team. Please join me in welcoming Jay and his service "partner" Tula to
this new leadership position within the Department.
