[Nfbc-info] Studying overseas

Hello,
I'll call them, but what I want is to look for any kind of exception for
students who will just be there for the two semesters of school, as an
American student with a swapped Italian student in America taking their
place...
I will just be paying the CA college. so I may even have a post office box
in CA at my school now I think about it. If the laws are on line, that would
be better, as I don't want to mess anything up with my current arrangement.
When I call the center I have to give my SSI number and they probably won't
spend any time looking for exceptions for students or folks who will not
change their residence.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Hello all. I worked at the Social Security call center in LA for about two
years from August of 2004 to January 22nd of 2006 when I had a fall.

This was a question that came up a lot. Unless the Social Security laws have
changed, you cannot keep your SSI if you are going oversees for a year.

What you need to do is call the call center @(800-772-1213.

I knopw that it came take a ng time to reach someone there, but it is better
to speak to someone who can access the SSA laws and give you the correct
answer to your questions.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THE WRONG THING WHEN IT COMES TO SSI. If they
catch you, and they will, it could be living hell to deal with them. You
need to do the wright thing in the beginning. I know that Social Security is
a real burocracy, but, it is the best system that we have today.

Good luck in your indevers.

Hi,

As far as I know. You cannot keep SSI if you are out of the country for more
than 30 days.

You can keep SSDI though.

I guess you could hope they don't notice, but I would be very careful.

When I told them I would be studying in India for 11 months, they
immediately stopped SSI.
