[Nfbc-info] Growing up Fisher

Hello Fred. I've been following this show. While I can't speak too
much to the acting, I think the premise of the show is a good one and it is
based on the creater's father, Mel Nash, a retired lawyer who happens to be
blind, from Boston. The various episodes are written by different people
and vary widely in their portrayals of Mel Fisher and his adventures. Some
of the ones I've seen have been good, others, well, not so much. The
creater, J. Nash wrote the pilot and "Date from Helnado". I've seen the
latter, and it was the best episode I've seen so far in terms of striking
the balance between demonstrating the capabilities of Mel Fisher and
showing that funny things really do happen to blind folks. Is it perfect?
No. Do I wish they showed some things differently? Yes. However, as sit
com's go abut blind folks, I think this one's pretty good and, over all, comes
out near the top of the stack. A blind actor would be nice, but you don't
see many blind actors on television, probably because they "look blind" and
that's a hard sell for a television producer, I think. Having said that,
perhaps they could have enlisted William Petersen, CSI's Gill Grissom, for
the part since he's reputed to be suffering from macular degeneration, as a
blind actor who looks good on screen. Again, it may not be perfect, but at
least in this show, the blind guy has a job and is being shown to be
capable of raising his children. Those two facts, in and of themselves, I
think, lend a lot of credence to this show and what it says about the
blind.

Thoughts? Let the flame fest begin. Lol.
