Thanks Jamie and greetings to all of our East Bay buddies. I trust your
president and board will get everyone stoked about our Bay area organizing
effort the week of the 18th of August. It will culminate, as I am sure most
know, with a fabulous "Discover You" seminar, presented by the National
Federation of the Blind of California Bay area chapters and hosted by the
San Francisco Lighthouse for the Blind. There will be food, drink,
hospitality, and Federation family to enjoy. The seminar will concentrate on
employment, technology, and recreation. If you know of folks who want to do
recruiting, outreach, and team building in the Bay area on the 19th, 20th,
21st, or 22nd of August please put them in touch with me. There is also some
outreach work to begin early next week. We have already begun receiving
RSVPs for the seminar. I personally want to thank Lisamaria, Tim Elder,
Shannon Dillon, Jamey Gump, Darian Smith, Angela Fowler, and Jessica Beecham
for the heavy lifting already being accomplished. We continue to add program
content to the seminar. We are open to all ideas. If you know of blind folks
in the Bay area who you think would benefit from personal contacts please
provide us info offline. The East Bay chapter is a huge part of this effort.
I am sure it will be an item to be discussed at the Thursday meeting.

In case anyone missed seeing a seminar flyer, I am pasting the text below.
Thank you so much. Let's go build the Federation!

Discover You
A seminar presented by:
The Bay area Chapters of the National Federation of the Blind of California
& Lighthouse for the Blind

Become Empowered, Define Your Future, Discover You!

Join the National Federation of the Blind of California and the Lighthouse
for the Blind for an action-packed day. Come learn how you can live the life
you want. Blind leaders in the community will present on topics such as
employment, technology and recreation. Learn about your options and how you
can advocate and raise expectations so that blindness need not hold you back
from accomplishing your dreams.

What?	A free seminar where you can learn the skills essential to success.
Continental breakfast, lunch and happy hour will be provided free
of charge!
Why?	Low expectations are often the obstacles which stand between
blind people and the desire to succeed; and it is time to change
that perception.
Who?	You! - Especially if you are a blind or low vision youth or adult;
have a family member who is blind; a professional in the blindness field;
and anyone else who wants to have fun.
Where?	Lighthouse for the Blind
214 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco
When?	Saturday, August 23 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

RSVP now to Lisamaria Martinez at lmartinez217 at gmail.com or 510-289-2577.
The first 25 people to sign up will receive a gift card. Limited
transportation may be arranged if there is a specific need.
