Subject: [Nfbc-info] positive Uber experience

Hello All,

I thought I'd share how communication turned what began as a negative
experience into a very productive and pleasant Uber experience.

I've never used Uber until yesterday. The driver also had a first time
experience. He had never transported a service dog. Initially I was told
that my dog could not go in the car. I wasn't deterred. I struck up a
conversation with the driver. From there I was able to open a dialog about
dogs in general. Shortly thereafter I asked the driver if he had some
concerns about having a dog in his car. He explained that he wasn't sure if
my dog was a pet or service dog.

He was very receptive toward understanding the differences between service
dogs and pets or fake service dogs. He now knows there's two questions he
can ask to help weed out the wanna-be service dogs from the real service
dogs.

There will always be drivers, store keepers and employers who will have
negative biases against dogs in general as well as service dogs.
Notwithstanding, there will always be individuals like myself who are
willing to open a dialog and share pertinent information about service dogs.
I hope that you will consider doing something similar the next time you
encounter a resistant Uber driver.

Warmly,

Lisa Irving
