Job Description:


SUMMARY:  With supervision, coordinates educational programs for a designated group of academic students with visual impairment.

Essential Functions:

1.   Providing Service:

*         Teaches visually impaired students with multiple
disabilities on an individual and group basis.

*         Instructs in technology, adaptive technology, core
curriculum, and expanded core.

*         Facilitates and participates in the development, review and
evaluation of individualized educational program (IEP) which may require the ability to observe and respond to a variety of environmental stimuli.

*         Conducts evaluations and assessments to determine a
student’s technology needs.

*         Provides in-service technology training and consultation to
MSB staff and troubleshoots effectively to resolve technology glitches

2.    Coordinating Service:

*         Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, IEP
meetings, staff meetings, and other school and student meetings as needed.

*         Selects, requisitions, and manages classroom technology
materials, supplies, and equipment

*         Maintains and monitors computers, hardware, and software inventories

*         Coordinates data collection and recording.

*         Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period.  This position follows a 11 month school schedule.  Additional hours or flex schedule may be required.


Experience and Skills:


Qualifications:

1.       Knowledge of technology instruction for students with visual
impairments using equipment & technology such Microsoft and Apple operating systems, iPads, braille displays, braille production programs, embossers, 3-D printers, PIAF machines, screenreaders, CCTV, copy machines, and telephones.

2.    Knowledge of special education principles, practices, and
procedures, including developing and writing IEP's and performing appropriate teaching techniques.

3.    Minimum of Bachelor's degree and ability to meet MSDE
certification with an endorsement in Vision required.

4.    General knowledge of visual impairment, including causes,
manifestations and adaptations.

5.    General knowledge of medical disorders such as seizures or
restrictions; alternate modes of communication; and orthopedic impairments.

6.    General knowledge of core and expanded core curriculum and
classroom management.

7.    Interest in robotics preferred.
