[Nfbc-info] Buses to state convention?

Hello Lisa and Robert:
I guess Robert did not see my message from Saturday yet because he was
having too much fun celebrating his birthday.

In talking to a couple of the So Cal chapter presidents I was reminded that
the last time we held a convention at the Embassy Suites So Cal people took
Access to the hotel. Train people can either take an Uber from the train
station or arrange for Access. Those two buses will cost the affiliate
approximately $2,000.00 for the round trip. We chartered buses last year
because the convention was just about smack dab in the middle of the state
and it was worth it to help members and first timers with the expenses.
This year, the Embassy Suites is only a couple of hours away from SD and an
Access ride away from the Inland Empire so we will not be chartering buses
from So Cal.

As for the train expenses, that is exactly why chapters are holding
fundraisers. This is an education and leadership opportunity. It is
perfectly justifiable for the chapter to raise funds to help blind people to
get to this training opportunity. There will be speakers who will address
employment opportunities, as well as, rehabilitation and training. The
exhibit hall will showcase assistive technology for blind people which will
empower them to take the information back to employers or Rehabilitation
Counselors to help them find employment.

I hope this helps. If I am not mistaken, the SD chapter should have about
$1,000.00 in the Treasury. Is that about right?

If I knew that there would be 50 people coming from SD, Escandito, Long
Beach it might be worth it but as it stands I believe we are only talking
about 6 to 10 people. I must admit, it would be really great if we could
fill a couple of buses from So Cal but I don't see that happening. What do
you think?

Thoughts?

Lisa,
As the Person in charge of finding busses, I can tell you there will be a
Northern California Bus starting from Redding and making its way down to El
Segundo.
As for a bus from San Diego we are still working on details and will have
some information soon.
Stay tuned!
