if you are a first-time attendee to the state convention, you may apply for
the Wilbur Radcliff Grant, which is funded from an endowment from Francis
Radcliff on behalf of her husband. It is meant to encourage first time
state convention attendees to experience all that the NFB of California
state convention has to offer. Follow this link to apply for a grant.
<http://www.nfbcal.org/nfbcnew/?p=1145&preview=true>The deadline for
applying is S*eptember 20, 2017*.
This year’s theme, *No Boundaries: Release What Holds You Back* represents
the fact all of us must take risks in order to grow and gain confidence in
everything we do, from a first step with a cane, to a first bus ride to a
first job—the list is as long as your possibilities. To take risks
and reach out beyond our safety zone, takes courage. This year’s theme
pushes you to release whatever is keeping you from living the life you
want. Do not allow yourself to be held back. Invest in yourself and your
abilities. Let there be no boundaries in your journey
Wilbur Radcliff Memorial Grant
Francis Radcliff was a Rehabilitation Counselor for the Blind at the
Department of Rehabilitation. She believed strongly that if a blind person
could get to a convention of the National Federation of the Blind of
California, that person would understand the value and philosophy of the
NFB . She knew that coming together and working together to improve the
lives of blind people would make us want to stay together. When her husband
Wilbur passed away in 1980, Francis endowed a small amount of money to be
held in an account that would grow each year. Each year, blind people can
apply for a grant to assist them to attend the National Federation of the
Blind of California State Convention. If you are or if you know a blind
adult who has never attended a California state convention, who would
really benefit from meeting others who have walked in their shoes, please
apply and share this link. The deadline for applying is September 20, 2017.
