Ride sharing companies Uber and Lyft will be providing free or discounted rides to voting polls across the country on Election Day.
 
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced last week that “with just a few taps in the Uber app” users will be able to find their polling place and book a ride to go vote.
 
“To help the millions of Americans who cite transportation barriers as the reason they don’t vote, we’ll be partnering with #VoteTogether and Democracy Works to provide free rides to the polls,” Khosrowshahi wrote in a blog post .
 
Uber has also began sharing registration resources with riders and drivers and has plans to host voter registration drives across the country.
 
The company follows Lyft’s announcement in August  that it would be providing free or discounted rides.
 
“It is estimated that over 15 million people were registered but didn’t vote in 2016 because of transportation issues,” according to Lyft. “That’s why we’re committed to providing 50 percent off rides across the country, and free rides to underserved communities that face significant obstacles to transportation.”
 
Lyft is working with Vote.org, Nonprofit Vote, TurboVote and others to distribute discount codes for those who need them. In a partnership with Voto Latino, Urban League affiliates and the National Federation of the Blind, Lyft will provide free rides to underserved communities.
 
The last day to register to vote in California for the midterm elections is Monday, Oct. 22.
