Position Summary: 
Under the supervision of the Director of Client Services, the Orientation and Mobility Specialist develops and implements individualized programs of instruction in orientation and mobility on an itinerant basis throughout the Center service area consistent with the mission of the Community Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
   ▪    Works in the CCBVI offices using CCBVI equipment to perform the following primary functions and responsibilities:
   ◦    Assess client’s needs and develop plans for addressing needs consistent with client’s abilities, objectives and goals
   ◦    Develop and Implement plans of individualized instruction
   ◦    Evaluate client’s progress, maintain comprehensive records and prepare required reports in a timely fashion
   ◦    Make recommendations for client’s continued progress
   ◦    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies working on behalf of clients
   ◦    Cooperate and consult with Center staff, professional disciplines, appropriate community resources, volunteers and significant others who are working professionally on behalf of the clients
   ◦    Keep abreast of latest developments in the field and agency/ancillary programs
   ◦    Adhere to agency policies and procedures as outlined in Employee Handbook
   ◦    Attend and participate in staff meetings
   ◦    Assist with any task deemed necessary to the operation of the Center as assigned
   ▪    Provide in-service training to professionals and paraprofessionals at CCBVI offices and other locations as needed.
   ▪    Represent Center in the community on issues related to environmental access and transportation, including consultation and service on committees as approved by Executive Director
Minimum Qualifications:
   ▪    Bachelor's or master's degree in orientation and mobility
   ▪    At least one year of experience
   ▪    Ability to represent Center in a professional manner and communicate effectively with diverse populations
   ▪    Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and standard first aid
   ▪    Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings as well as fingerprint and background checks
   ▪    Bondable
   ▪    Current certification by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) preferred
   ▪    Ability to furnish own transportation (if needed)
   ▪    Possession of current and valid California driver’s license
