Good morning. Please share the below information and application with
people in your networks. The Braille and Talking Book Library is
seeking people from a variety of backgrounds - including parents,
students, seniors, people with print disabilities, bilingual Spanish
speakers, and veterans - to join the advisory counsel for the Braille
and Talking Book Library. They must be from one of the 43 counties
stated in the information below.

Thank you.

California Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL) User Advisory
Council Seeks New Members

The Braille and Talking Book Library of Northern California (BTBL),
the National Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) Regional
Library serving blind/low vision residents and persons with other
print disabilities in 43 Northern California counties, is seeking
applicants for its Braille and Talking Book Library User Advisory
Council (BUAC) for the 2023-2025 calendar years. We serve residents
of the counties of Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa,
Contra Costa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Inyo, Lake,
Lassen, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Monterey,
Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Benito, San Joaquin, San
Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano,
Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Yolo, and Yuba.

The BUAC desires a strong representation of the richly diverse range
of ethnic, cultural, and print disability demographics in all reaches
of Northern California. Patrons who are U.S. Veterans, bilingual
Spanish speakers, persons of color, GLBTQ+, persons with reading
disabilities such as dyslexia, teenagers/young adults, parents of
minors with print disabilities, and patrons who possess other physical
disabilities that prevent them from reading conventional print -- are
strongly encouraged to apply.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to explore the Council by-laws
and online application form on our web page:
https://www.library.ca.gov/btbl/advisory-council/

and apply. And despite its inclusion in the accessible, fillable PDF
application form, a wet signature is no longer required. We have
often brought new members on mid-year so please feel free to apply now
or any time.

The BTBL User Advisory Council meets virtually four times per year
via the Zoom conferencing platform, with an occasional in-person
meeting at the California State Library’s Sacramento location, with
all travel expenses paid/reimbursed . Council member terms last for 2
years.

The purpose of the Council is to provide advice to the California
State Library (CSL) and BTBL. Council members have the opportunity to
advise and make recommendations to BTBL and CSL management for
improvements to library services. The Council is not a policy-making
body.

The BUAC Recruitment and Selection Committee will review applications.
The first meeting of the calendar year generally takes place in March.
