Good afternoon,

Landmarks are part of the WAI-ARIA w3c draft recommendation.
Landmarks allow web content authors to identify the function of
different sections of a web-page (navigation, main content, etc). If
a browser / screen-reader properly implements ARIA then a simple
keystroke can be used to quickly move focus to different parts of the
page. IE7 and FF3 are two browser that I know of that support ARIA
partially. IE8 and FF3.1 will do a far better job.
