Is the 's' in the subject line a typo?

Gnome is a GUI environment that runs on top of the _X windows system_,
which runs on many UNIX systems including Linux.

Orca is a screen reader that works with Gnome

In my opinion, it's still pretty slow, and not really ready for prime
time. However, there are many other people use it and like it.

One thing though. Many of the coordinators of the orca project work at
Sun, and I'm worried about their future now that Sun has been acquired
by Oracle. That is, I don't know what's going to happen with those
folks.

If you're looking for non GUI Linux access (i.e. you don't need to run
Gnome based GUI applications), then there are other options for
accessing Linux. They include console based screen readers, including
yasr and speakup; and ssh clients that run on windows machines. With
an ssh client, you login to a Linux machine remotely by running a
windows application such a putty.

I hope this information helps, and am happy to answer questions.
