Agreed,
15 years of experience, 0 references to serial monitor. You just have a standard monitor connector. Unless the new system is USB / DVI or HDMI only you'll be fine.
Even my new Macbook Pro can have a standard monitor attached for a $29.95 adapter from Apple.
