[nfbcs] Closing the Laptop's Lid.

Hello. Closing the lid of a laptop usually activates a switch that
causes the machine to go to sleep. This function can be disabled, usually,
through the BIOs, but if you do that, you absolutely need to make sure you
shut the machine down or put it to sleep before putting it in its carrying
case or you'll run the risk of having it overheat or otherwise become
damaged in travel. If the problem is actually caused by dust, then blowing
out the dust should fix the keys which aren't working and you'll be good
again. To prevent the dust from coming back, I suggest running with the
laptop open, but with a piece of thin paper placed over its keyboard. Make
sure the paper is thin so heat can escape from the machine. With this
simple solution, you'll not have to change any settings on the machine and,
if the problem is caused by dust, you'll prevent it from building up in the
future.

Is there a particular reason why you think your keyboard troubles are
caused by dust? Do you work in a particularly dusty environment? Does your
laptop sit for many days, weeks or months without moving or being touched?
If you bring your laptop to work every day and set it up to run for a day
and then take it home at night, I'd be skepticle that dust is the source of
your problem. The act of picking up the laptop and loading it into a bag
or unloading it from a bag each day should dislodge any dust that might
have accumulated during the day. It sounds like something might have been
spilled into the keyboard of the laptop that's causing the trouble. If
that's the case, then putting your laptop out of harm's way might be the
better answer than closing the lid while you use it.

Hope that helps spark some ideas as to what might be going on.
