Now that's my idea of a proper operating system.  In the event you write 
up your progress especially as regards accessibility I will read with 
interest.  Usually when I run Linux, it's strictly command line 
interface since I don't yet have a screen for the computer and the 
graphical user interfaces eith won't install or won't run post-install 
without that screen.  Fortunately, archlinux isn't so fussy.
