I switched over to linux full time about 4 years ago. But I used to use
openssh for Windows. It has the advantage of just running in a command
window. So if your screen reader works in a Windows command window, it
will work with openssh for Windows. I think you can still download
openssh for Windows but it hasn't been actively developed for years.
Just a note, you can get the same voice for linux that you get with
jaws. It's called voxim (I think).A licence costs $5. As a linux
systems admin, I have found that using a linux desktop makes my job way
easier. Orca may not be as good as jaws but the glitches in Windows
connectivity tools more than make up for that deficiency.
I have a voxim license and haven't bothered to install it for years. I
should try voxim again. When I switched to linux full time, I found the
sound of espeak somewhat irritating. People suggested it was just that I
wasn't used to it. I doubted that. I still doubt it. But you do get used
to espeak and you can make it less irritating by fiddling with the
settings.
