[nfbcs] Computer Stubborn to Power Up

I have not had anything like this happen, but perhaps something got damaged,
even with the surge protector, something that, somehow, might be requiring a
certain amount of power, and, if an outlet cannot deliver that much energy,
the computer will not start.

Good evening everyone,

 

                I need to clarify the subject a little more so folks can
better understand what's going on here. About a month ago we had a power
outage that caused my wife's computer to shut down. This computer was
plugged into a surge protector at the time. When the power came back on I
could not get my wife's computer to turn on initially. Unplugging the
computer from the surge protector and plugging it back in again did not
cause the computer to come on. The only way I could make this machine power
up was to plug it directly into a wall outlet. The computer came on and
bootted up without incident and worked trouble-free. We had several power
outages since that time and the computer came on without trouble. 

 

                This afternoon our maintenance came to repair an outlet that
blew out about a week ago. To replace the outlet they told me they would
need to turn off the circuit breaker and suggested that I turn off all
electronic devices. So far so good. However when the breakers were turned
back on and I tried turning on this computer the same thing happened.
Initially it would not power up. After switching the computer to a different
outlet it powered on without trouble. The surge protector does not appear to
be the problem. We have other devices plugged into it that are all working
as usual. Now that this computer is up and running it's behaving like its
normal self.

 

                We want to know if others have had a situation like this
occur and how did you fix it? I looked for a "Reset" switch to reset the
machine to hopefully make it power up whenever it's turned on and
reguardless of whether the machine is plugged into a surge protector or a
wall outlet. We're hoping to have a tech investigate this behavior to see
what may be causing the computer not to power up without having to apply the
brass knuckles to make it do so. All the best.
