	hello.  What version of Unix?  There are several that work well for
various flavors of Unix, more that work for Linux.
I use Yasr, written by Michael Goarse as my screen reader in conjunction
with Festival Lite (flite) and the eflite program.  This set of software
runs completely in user space and requires no privileges outside of those
available to your regular user.  It will need access to a sound device, but
that's the only device it needs to use that's out of the ordinary.
	If you can elaborate further on what you need, we can provide more
suggestions.
