[NFBCS] QBraille braille display

Tracy:

Essentially, the QBraille is the HIMS Braille EDGE 40's programming system
mated with a qwerty keyboard where the Braille keys take the place of the
letters and numbers. If you are familiar with the operation of the
applications on the EDGE, they work almost similar on the QBraille.

I must humbly admit that, as a long-time Braille EDGE user, I am somewhat
disappointed with the QBraille. Every time I have tried to connect the
QBraille to my home or work iOS devices, I have experienced difficulty in
getting it to initiate connection or to connect upon starting the next
session. They are doing some things where they have a hybrid mode wherein
you pair the device to your phone or computer twice, once as a keyboard and
once as the Braille EDGE display. It's a neat concept in theory, but does
not work as well as it should. Problems include not being able to scroll the
Braille, translation issues, and keys not being recognized as you would
expect. I've also not been real impressed with HIMS customer service and
support.

I am a huge fan of the new Focus 40 Blue displays.

Hope this helps.

Wes

Subject: [NFBCS] QBraille braille display

Today I got a hands-on demo of the HIMS QBraille. It seems very nice, with
a braille display, braille input keys, and all the usual laptop function
keys built into the braille device, so I could do everything from one place.

However, I wasn't able to make it work fully on my work laptop, because it
needed a driver and I don't have admin rights, and, when the demonstrator
installed it on his laptop, it totally crashed Jaws. That was rather
off-putting.

Is anyone using the QBraille with Jaws? I'm guessing someone tested it with
Jaws before sending it out for sale, but it would be nice to really know
that's true.

(Psst, it's a Vispero conspiracy to kill all devices they don't sell.)

Tracy
