[NFBCS] IRC Access From Windows

Correction,

In the note below, I failed to say that I logged into the Zoom meting on my windows machine, then opened the minutes file. During the meeting, I mostly stayed in the minutes file. My unmute command is universal and can be done from the minutes file. Actually I have a mute switch on my earphones.

Hello David,

I fully understand what you are saying.

When I started taking minutes for Zoom meetings, I would alt + tab away from the minutes file to the Zoom session to see who was speaking, hit control + shift + t to get the name, then alt + tab back to the minutes. I lost most of what was being said doing this. (I have the Brian Hartgen JAWS Zoom scripts.)

Now, I log my iPhone into the meeting, disconnect the audio, set the focus to show who is speaking, link my Orbit 40 to the iPhone, then log in my Windows machine into the minutes file.

My Orbit 40 has the name of the speaker, and I do not have to alt + tab to see who is speaking.

I also tried pair-programming. This can work for debugging, but was totally impractical from a coding point of view. The sighted person would grab the mouse, and away the cursor would go. I never knew where we were in the file.

I appreciate your work.

I am not saying that it can't be done -- but as a blind person, I am finding it increasingly difficult to participate in real-time collaborative processes. We have one less channel of input, and it can be difficult to keep up with everything in real-time.

Better tools will help some, and more experience will help some -- but I am looking forward to my retirement!

Dave
