Hello,

A powerful free screen reader is the Nonvisual Desktop Access (NVDA) (https://www.nvaccess.org/).

You can also appeal the decision on not providing the kind of equipment you need such as JAWS and a Braille display. You are the expert on your needs.

Sorry for not naming the software I was referring to. The software is RT Systems FT3D Programmer.

I also do not have JAWS. My Department of Rehabilitations Counselor suggested I work with and try the freely available options for now since I still have some usable vision.

I sent RT support a message letting them know that it would be nice if their software had a Dark Mode option and if not then at least let it be Windows Accessibility Features capable which it is not. I have not received a response yet and I don't think I'll be getting one.

I can't be sure which software you mean from your message, but you may well be describing the Radioddity GD-77S programming software application, DMR. I have JAWS scripts and some documentation, including an audio tutorial prepared by someone else, at https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dlee.org%2Fdmr%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C0907c1ec3a7f4d34754208d9fb2caa7f%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637816991525587359%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=%2F%2Fi3cUHBfRCoS%2B9eseNW35Ck0oqkVf6buoCEY4xusWY%3D&reserved=0 in case that's helpful. I have no personal experience with the device though, and only the limited experience with the app that was required for me to script around a few problems with it.

Hello everyone,

I think this might have been covered before but can't seem to find the messages right now. It's more like I'm really irritated and don't feel like doing a deep search on any message archives.

I'm working with some software that doesn't have a Dark Mode feature and the developers have it so that the Disability Features in Windows doesn't work.
The screen I'm working with is still a very bright white with black text!

I still have some usable vision and still use it as much as possible and I'm still learning how to use screen readers but don't practice it enough and I don't know how it would work with this particular software anyway. It's like a spreadsheet with some drop down menus and check boxes in a few columns of fields. It doesn't navigate well or as well as a regular spreadsheet where moving around with tab or arrows awkwardly move around some fields and not in others. I'm not sure a screen reader would work well in this application.

I'm an Amateur Radio operator with a Technician's license and I'm trying to use a 3rd party developed software to program my radio and having a bright white screen in my face is starting to feel painful so I can only work with it a few minutes at a time.

Is there a group to write to that could advocate for disability features? I think the developers of this program is such a small group that it might not even be taken seriously by them.
