hello. In reading Steve Jacobson's post and thinking about the provider, a provider, by
the way, which has a very good reputation for doing things well technically, it occurs to me
that it's very likely the settings you're using for your inbound and outbound e-mail, especially
if, as Steve pointed out, you used the automatic settings, are wrong.

From my investigations, I suggest the following settings:

Under the account settings, for the outbound server, under advanced, select port 587, then, for
encryption, select "starttls"

For the inbound server, select SSL enabled, and select port 993.

This should enable encrypted communications between your machine and your mail provider, both
for inbound and outbound e-mail, and should get rid of the error messages.
