el Pleito Sobre el Kindle

Phoenix, Arizona (11 de enero del 2010): La Federación Nacional

de Ciegos, (NFB), el Consejo Americano de Ciegos, (ACB), y la Universidad de
Arizona
State, (ASU), hoy han anunciado el establecimiento de un acuerdo

resolviendo el pleito entablado por la Federación, y El Consejo, en contra
de la Junta Directiva de Arizona Board
of Regents, (ABOR), y de ASU. El pleito se presentó por la participación

de la Universidad en un programa piloto utilizando el Kindle DX, un
dispositivo dedicado a leer los libros electrónicos, desarrollado por

Amazon.com, Inc. La Federación y el Consejo, alegaron que el Kindle DX era
inaccesible para estudiantes ciegos, y así, violaba la ley federal. ABOR
y ASU, negaron y continúan negando cualquier violación de la ley.

El acuerdo establecido entre los partidarios fué alcanzado a la luz de

varios factores, incluyendo: (1) el compromiso de ASU de proveer acceso

a todos los programas e instalaciones para los estudiantes con

"La Federación Nacional de Ciegos está contenta con este

Mitch Pomerantz, Presidente del Consejo Americano de Ciegos,
