La Federación Nacional de Ciegos anuncia el Programa de (LEY) 2011 de Liderazgo y Abogacía en Washington 
En la que participa la Voz de la Juventud Ciega de Estados Unidosde abril 8, a abril 12 del 2011
Solicitudes se reciben hasta el 1 de febrero del 2011.
Esta experiencia de cuatro días proporcionará a los estudiantes ciegos y de baja visión en los grados seis a nueve, o de edades doce a dieciséis, con una oportunidad única de explorar el funcionamiento internodel gobierno de nuestro país, su historia y su cultura, durante su estancia en la sede de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos en Baltimore, Maryland. Además de aprender acerca de esfuerzos de base de la legislación, cómo se adoptan los proyectos de ley, y cómo es creada la legislación de la ceguera,los participantes se familiarizarán con la labor de la abogacía de individuos ciegos y los recursos disponibles para los estudiantes y los adultos ciegos. Aspectos destacados del programa incluyen: visitas a sitios históricos en Washington, D.C., reuniones con dirigentes gubernamentales influyentes, presentaciones de dirigentes prominentes del grupo de abogacía más grande en el país sobre la ceguera, un recorrido por la sede nacional de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos, y oportunidades de interactuar con la tecnología del centro internacional, International Braille and Technology Center, el laboratorio más grande de la tecnología Braille y de los productos de voz.Veinticuatro estudiantes serán aceptados para el programa de LA LEY. The National Federation of the Blind Announces the 2011 NFB Leadership and Advocacy in Washington, D.C., (LAW) Program

 

Engaging the Voice of America's Blind Youth

 

April 8-12, 2011

 

Applications are due by February 1, 2011. 

 

This four-day experience will provide blind and low-vision students in grades six to nine, or ages twelve to sixteen, with a unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of our country's government, its history, and its culture, while staying at the headquarters for the National Federation of the Blind in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to learning about grassroots legislation efforts, how resolutions are passed, and how blindness legislation is created, participants will become familiar with advocacy work for blind individuals and available resources for blind students and adults. Highlights of the program include: visits to historical sites in Washington, D.C., meetings with influential government leaders, presentations by prominent leaders from the largest blindness advocacy group in the country, a tour of the National Federation of the Blind national headquarters, and opportunities to interact with technology from the International Braille and Technology Center, the largest lab of Braille and speech products for the blind. 

 

Twenty-four students will be accepted for the LAW program. All accepted students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, teacher, or blind/low-vision mentor from their home state. There will be a $250 fee per student/chaperone pair. Transportation, room, and board will be provided for students and chaperones.
