¿Sabías que el 2 de marzo es el día de la Lectura A Través de los Estados Unidos, Read Across America Day, y el cumpleaños del Doctor Seuss? En 1998, la Asociación Nacional de Educación comenzó la celebración del Día de la Lectura a Través de los Estados Unidos, ¡como una forma más de motivar a los jóvenes a leer! Este año, la Federación Nacional de Ciegos se complace en anunciar que se está uniendo a esta celebración de la importancia de la alfabetización para todos los niños. La Lectura a Través de los Estados Unidos, Read Across America, pide a cada uno en todo el país, celebrar la lectura, y al Doctor Seuss el 2 de marzo, ¡ya que es su cumpleaños! En la Federación te estamos pidiendo celebrar, al unirte con nosotros el 2 de marzo para exaltar la importancia de la alfabetización, en particular, la alfabetización en Braille haciendo las tres cosas siguientes:

 

1. ¡LEE El Doctor Seuss! De esto es de lo que este día se trata. Puedes encontrar versiones en línea de libros del Doctor Seuss para descargar en Braille en Bookshare, o en Web-Braille, y puedes encontrar libros en Braille reales en Seedlings o National Braille Press. Si lees uno de los libros favoritos de Whosit, del Doctor Seuss, Bartholomew and the Ooblek, hay una lección en el Plan de Estudios del Programa BELL de la Federación ¡para hacer tu propio Ooblek!

 

2. ¡Háblanos de lo que estás leyendo! Si estás leyendo el Doctor Seuss o no, aún queremos oír hablar de ello.   Did you know that March 2nd is Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss' birthday? In 1998 the National Education Association began celebrating Read Across America Day as one more way to motivate youth to read! This year the National Federation of the Blind is excited to announce that we are joining in this celebration of the importance of literacy for all children. Read Across America asks everyone across the country to celebrate reading and Dr Seuss on March 2nd because it's his birthday! At the NFB we are asking you to celebrate by joining us on March 2nd to extol the significance of literacy­especially Braille literacy­by doing the following three things:

   

  1. READ Dr Seuss! This is what this day is all about. You can find online versions of Dr. Seuss books to download in Braille at Bookshare or on Web-Braille and you can find actual Braille books at Seedlings or National Braille Press. If you read one of Whosit's favorite Dr. Seuss books, Bartholomew and the Ooblek, there is a lesson in the NFB BELL Program Curriculum to make your own Ooblek!

   

  2. Tell us about what you are reading! Whether you are reading Dr. Seuss or not, we still want to hear about it. Post about it on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #Braille and #neara12 (that stands for National Education Association Read across America 2012). You can talk about what you are reading, suggest books, ask for suggestions, post about why you love Braille and why it is important, or about anything else. We want to hear from you.

   

  3. Send us a video of your child reading Braille or show how you celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. Whosit will choose his favorites and those will be posted on his Facebook page, the NFB's YouTube page, and tweeted by the NFB_Voice. Use the form found at www.nfb.org/read-across-america.
