Compañeros Federacionistas:

Hoy, el Senado de los Estados Unidos permitió que la enmienda 1742 del 
Senador Portman, en

la resolución de transporte de superficie, S. 1813, fuera considerada, en
la sala. La enmienda del Senador
Portman buscó permitir a los estados abrir empresas comerciales
en las carreteras federales y autopistas interestatales. Esta política 
hubiera
repercutido notablemente en
el sustento de los empresarios ciegos en el programa Randolph-Sheppard
que opera las instalaciones expendedoras en las carreteras federales e
interestatales a través de
nuestro país.

Me complace decirles que, debido a la abogacía de la
Federación Nacional de Ciegos, la enmienda 1742 del Senador Portman fué 
rechazada
por voto de la mayoría en un recuento de
86 a 12 por el Senado de los Estados Unidos. Aprecio la ardua labor
que se pone en la protección del interés de los vendedores ciegos. los
seguiré manteniendo
informados sobre esta cuestión, ya que esta resolución pronto será enviada a 
la Cámara
de Representantes para su consideración.
