Hello Chapter,

I had the opportunity to speak by phone with the founder of EZRE, a very interesting startup company the other morning. I had not only been seeing information about EZRE and their service in various emails, newsletters and websites recently, but also had a chance to visit with them in Austin during The NFB National convention. I think their product/service is quite intriguing and is worth a good look by all of us. I also will let you know that I am hopeful that EZRE will be a sponsor/vendor during our upcoming NFB of Florida Affiliate convention in October.

The company’s founder, Alberto, let me know about an event taking place in Jacksonville this Friday, August 21st and asked that I spread the word. I am more than happy to do this. I only wish that I was able to go but unfortunately, I will be out of town this Friday. I am sending this note out to you all in hopes that you might be able to make the event and will be able to say hello to Alberto, his team and the folks at Happy Brew. I am confident that other members of the blind and low vision community in and around Jacksonville will be on hand and I would be thrilled if The NFB Greater Jacksonville Chapter was strongly represented. Wee have been talking for a while about the importance of getting out into our community, now we have the perfect opportunity.

WHAT IT IS

EZRE is a veteran-owned company launching in Florida, and this party celebrates its first Florida partner: Happy Brew, a nonprofit coffee shop in San Marco that provides employment, job training, and leadership opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental differences.

EZRE's purpose is that paper receipts don't work for blind and low-vision shoppers. You pay with your card the same way you already do, and an itemized receipt arrives on your phone automatically - no photographing a receipt, no scanning a QR code. The company was founded by the first blind graduate of the United States Naval Academy, class of 2023, and the app went live on the App Store about a month ago. Starting August 21, any purchase at Happy Brew can generate an accessible EZRE receipt.

FIRST 100 COFFEES ARE FREE

Download EZRE, link your card, and buy a coffee at the Happy Brew counter. You'll get an itemized receipt on your phone, and they cover the cost of the coffee. Their team will be there all day to help people get set up. Bring the physical card you want to link.

Throughout the day there will be live head-to-head demos, games, music, and time to meet the Happy Brew crew.

Guide dogs are welcome.

The venue was designed to exceed ADA standards: no-step entry with wide automatic doors, ample wheelchair-accessible parking, tables at multiple heights, braille signage, a sensory room, and restrooms with automatic doors and an adult-sized changing table. There's an indoor cafe, a covered patio, and an outdoor lawn and stage.

The event will be photographed and filmed. You can tell them at check-in if you'd rather not be included.
