Georgia Guide Dog Users was recently made aware of a problem at Hartsfield
Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. We would appreciate your help to
assess the extent to which this is a common occurrance there.

When GGDU member Betsy Grenevitch and her daughter went to pick up our
Georgia Council of the Blind convention speakers Eric and Rebecca Bridges,
who were flying in on Airtran, they had to wait long enough at the airport
that Betsy's dog needed to use a relief area. They found that neither
Airtran nor airport staff knew where the relief area was, let alone how to
direct them to it. The Atlanta airport is a big place and we know it has
more than one relief area. What we don't know is how many personell from
other airlines also don't know where these areas are or how to assist guide
dog handlers whose dogs need to use them.

In order to address this situation, it would be helpful to know if any of
you have experienced this problem when you've been at Hartsfield Jackson. If
you have, please let me know about the situation. When was it and who did
you ask about a relief area for your dog? Do you know if you were speaking
with personell of a particular airline or was it airport staff? Likewise, if
you needed to find a relief area, but got the directions or assistance you
