Well said.
I wish I could write more explicit as to what I am trying to express.
First of all I don't know everyone who went to a specialized school verses a 
mainstream school.  So all I know is what I come in contact with.   but I can 
pick out the one who acts gitty or immature in public and most likely they came 
from a closed environment school.  I recently met a blind teen  who recently 
graduated from a blind school.  I knew this person just a few months after he 
was born.  I once had an organization for parents with blind children down here 
in Ft. Myers.

I was disappointed when I seen him because he was not ready for the real world.
All I am trying to say is for you to sit in a quiet room and think deeply, how 
would you like your blind child to learn to be a viable part of this great world 
and what attributes' would you like to have  that child have as an adult.
Do you want to have that child grow up to be a fighter, always fighting for 
special rights or to act and think like one who is a real and contributing part 
of society.
I, personally  is not involved in changing any of these ideas because 
afteralmost 50 years of advocating for blind people, it is time for us just to 
live our own lives. So what ever all of you do is not my concern anymore. 
Terry and I have lived a full life and the work and accomplishments that we have 
done were gratifying to us.

Sherri and Mark, you two are saying the very same things that the sighted
people do about being different! How can we change the minds of the sighted
about us when we in fact keep talking about being "them against us"
mentality?
I have been reading your comments and it sounds like you both are bitter
about the facts that are out there just like some in the sighted community
that are bitter about us that we talk against so much! Until we start
talking like  we are all the same capable people, we will remain seperated,

It just bothers me to a huge degree to hear formerly sighted people say how
much more together they have figured out blindness and blind people and how
we should behave or act because they were formerly sighted. There are blind
people out there achieving great things who have never been sighted. Maybe
I'm just being over-sensitive, but I'm really tired of the superior attitude
of sighted people who are now blind thinking they have it over all us people
who have never been sighted.
