                        Disability Employment

                        Awareness Month

On September 18, Governor Rick Scott and the Florida
Cabinet approved a resolution declaring October as Disability Employment
Awareness Month in Florida.

Attorney General Pam Bondi introduced the resolution
at the Cabinet meeting designating October as a time to focus on employing
people with disabilities.

A 20-year employee of Chemring Ordnance in Perry,
Alma Candis, addressed the governor and Cabinet on the importance of
including people with disabilities in the workforce.

Along with Candis, the top leaders from the Agency
for Persons with Disabilities, Vocational Rehabilitation, Blind Services,
Veterans' Affairs, Department of Economic Opportunity, Governor's Commission
on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities, and the Able Trust accepted the
resolution.

In celebration of the month, APD and its partner
agencies will host a recognition event on October 18 to recognize seven
businesses as Exceptional Employers of the Year

                        .

Exceptional employers are businesses from around the
state that are committed to hiring and retaining employees with
disabilities. The City of Tallahassee and Able Trust are helping to sponsor
the event.

Governor Rick Scott, Cabinet members, and other
community leaders have been invited to participate and recognize the
contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce.

The event will be held at the Tallahassee City
Commission Chambers, 300 South Adams Street. Information displays will be in
the Second Floor Mezzanine beginning at 8:30 a.m. The employer recognition
will begin at 9:30 a.m.

To RSVP for the event or request an accommodation,
call (850) 488-4257.
