Hello Mark and everyone,

Mark and I used to attend summer camp at Harkness Memorial State park in
Waterford Connecticut. Soling was one of our activities. Mark did you ever
go sailing when you were at camp Harkness? I'll never forget the day one of
the counselors took me sailing in the Sunfish. The craft was moored in Long
Island Sound and we had to swim out to it. When getting in to the water for
the swim back to shore my bathing sute got caught on one of the hooks for
the ropes and tore. With a life jacket held tightly around my waste I made
a Bee-line for the bathhouse to get dressed. Perhaps Camp Harkness was the
unofficial birthplace of the streak long before it became fashionable in the
early 1970s. It was the talk of the whole camp in the dining hall that
evening. Of the summer camps for the blind I attended Camp Harkness was the
best.

Oh, Sherri! You've never been sailing? When I lived in Cleveland I
belonged to a blind sailing club and we'd go sailing on Lake Erie. I could
tell you some cool stories about that experience. For example the time when
the captain fell asleep and his assistant panicked and I was at the tiller.
Oh, what fun, we almost hit a wall. But most of the time it was pretty
cool, a great way to spend a summer evening.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I missed you all at convention I was having fun sailing. Over
Memorial Day weekend I was at a Paralympic SKUD18 camp in Newport, RI
and last weekend I competed in the Robie Pierce One Design Regatta. I
skippered our Ideal 18 and had Glenn Boivin from SailBlind in Boston as
my crew. We finished 7th in a fleet of 17 boats. It was a real fun
regatta and great experience.

We're always looking for blind sailors to join us. If you interested
please contact me. The Blind National Championships are in September in
Newport, RI.

Cheers,
Kris Scheppe
