I’m glad to do it, Camille. Maybe it will save other people time and aggrivation.

Mark:

I am late to this post, but thank you for the advice on this live voicemail thing! I started having live transcription of voicemail as it is being left not with this last recent update, but with the 17.1 update earlier. Thank you for getting it figured out and sharing with all of us.
Sincerely,

Hey Mark, well it’s interesting and I still think that’s a worthwhile thing to do though I think I’ve seen this bug regarding voicemail longer than iOS 17 but anyway we shall see. Thanks for all this though because it’s probably gonna help anyone who’s having a problem with that live voicemail thing.

It looks like the problem has been solved. I just spoke for over an hour with a technician at U.S. Cellular. It is possible that the latest IOS update from last week turned on a feature called Live Voice Mail, which can apparently override your voice mailbox. So you go to settings, go to phone, double tap it, then go to Live Voice Mail. Double tap on that, and you get a toggle that allows you to turn that off. Turn it off. Then have someone call you and leave a message, and your voice mailbox should work. It appears that nobody except my last technician had ever heard of such a thing. Just my opinion. So if anyone else gets this problem, this is what I would suggest.

I’ve never done any of that and I don’t remember my pin number. Lol I just always use my own phone and do it so I don’t know. That’s interesting

Another thing I have noticed is that I don’t appear to be able to access my messages from another phone, even if I use my voice mail Pin number. Even if I try to record a greeting, if I call from another phone Seri overrides it and does its own greeting. I wonder what would happen if I tried to delete the entire voice mail service and then restart it, except I don’t know how to actually do that. This hardly sounds like being more advanced. Just my opinion.

Well, I think one of the things that makes this difficult is that it is intermittent and they don’t know how to reproduce it because it doesn’t happen that way all the time. There are some voicemails that I get right away and then there are others that I don’t and I’ve even seen this with email where I don’t see it And then I do a search or something and it’ll show up and it’ll be in the middle of some others that I did see so I don’t know how it’s hiding but yeah I just think it’s very hard to reproduce but I know of people in other countries and With other carriers that have gotten this so I really don’t believe it’s carrier unless it’s specific carriers but not all.

        Hi, Debbie,

Finally, someone who actually experienced this!!! At the risk of sounding quite rough, I cannot believe that the people at Apple and U.S. Cellular are totally unaware of this. What kind of techs do they hire, anyway? Sorry, but these technology issues can sometimes make me wonder if we have really advanced at all in that area.

Hi Mark, I was told that this is a bug, and never heard it to be a carrier issue. I believe there are people who experience this no matter which carrier they are with. My experiences that it will show me no mail and then maybe an hour or two later it will show me that indeed there is mail. I have not yet tried but think I will try clearing phone out of the app switcher to see if that helps maybe for it to refresh. It is odd but I have kind of gotten used to it and I know not to trust it when it says there is nothing there and surely enough I will see it. it is surprising that no one knows how to reproduce it though because I have known for this to be a bug with all their number of people I don’t know maybe for a year or so. Maybe others will weigh in.
        All best,
        Debbie Hazelton

          Greetings everyone,

This is specifically for anyone using an I Phone with Useless, I mean U.S. Cellular. Alright, I’ll try to be nice, LOL. And I will make this as short as possible. Has anybody experienced a situation in which you dial in your voice mailbox and get told there are no messages, even though you know someone called you and left a message? I went to our local U.S. Cellular store this morning and the technician had never seen anything like that. I called Apple, and they say it’s a carrier issue. I spoke on the phone with who knows how many people at U.S. Cellular who tried all kinds of things, some of which I had already tried, but they really couldn’t help. Obviously I am going to need to learn to use the phone app to retrieve voice mail messages, and I am working on that, but It would be nice to still have this option. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
