Thurs MAY 23, 2024

2PM to 4PM (EST)

TOPIC: Non-24 Hour Sleep Wake Disorder

Attendees will learn about the biology and symptoms

of Non-24 and how to access no-cost resources available.

Join Florida Outreach Center for the Blind, Inc. and our guest speaker,
Vicki Preddy, MSN/RN. She will discuss "Non-24", a rare circadian rhythm
disorder that appears when someone's internal body clock is not operating in
alignment with the 24-hour external world clock that most people live by. It
results in severe disturbances in someone's sleep and wake patterns. This
disorder occurs with high frequency in people with total blindness, but it
can affect those with low vision as well.

Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder is most common in people with total
blindness, due to the lack of light input reaching the internal clock. It's
estimated that approximately 50% of completely blind people have N24SWD.
