Subject: Paratransit at the avenues
Hello everyone!
During our last Transportation Disadvantaged meeting for Space Coast Area Transit we were informed that the avenues in Viera would not allow the Paratransit to go inside the avenues and drop people off at their destination. I had a meeting with the directors of the avenues, they consulted Legal as well as their security team and found out that this has never been their policy.
They were very concerned that this has been happening in the past and want this issue rectified as soon as possible. Space Coast Area Transit has been informed that they can drop people off at their desired location and not at an outside perimeter location.
Please contact me personally if you have any trouble in the future with any shopping area in the county. There is no reason for a Visually Impaired, elderly or disabled person to be dropped off at a perimeter location as opposed to at the front door of their desired location.
Let’s work together to make transportation, safer, and easier for us in Brevard county.
Below is a copy of the email that was forwarded to Carmen at Space Coast Area Transit
Dear Jeff and Carmen,
Jeff, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me on the phone and for helping clear up the confusion regarding Paratransit and Space Coast Area Transit. I truly appreciate your time, energy, and dedication to serving our community.
Carmen, to recap and clarify based on my conversation with Jeff:
Paratransit is permitted to enter The Avenues, and riders should be dropped off directly at their desired destination within the community, not at a perimeter or general location.
Jeff, please let me know if I have overlooked or misstated any details. Once again, I am deeply grateful for your assistance and for your ongoing support of the elderly and disabled population of Brevard County.
With gratitude,
Jennifer Cleveland
