Happy Labor Day!

 

I hope you are taking time to relax and enjoy this long weekend with your
family and friends.

 

While many associate this meaningful occasion with the end of summer and the
beginning of football season, Labor Day is a time to pay tribute to the
contributions and the achievements of the American worker. Our economy and
the overall well-being of our country is dependent on the skills, talents,
and contributions of our labor force.

 

The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5,
1882. Two years later, 23 states adopted the holiday. On June 28, 1894,
President Grover Cleveland signed a law designating the first Monday in
September as the national Labor Day holiday.

 

In a proclamation on August 30, 2019, President Trump stated, "On Labor Day,
we recognize the remarkable American workers who comprise the greatest labor
force in the world. American workers are the heart and soul of our Nation's
economic resurgence. . . . We honor those Americans whose contributions have
turned our country into an economic powerhouse, and we renew our commitment
to create an environment that continues to foster and promote opportunity".
