Dear All,

No matter what positive words they use to spin this proposal, it disenfranchises the disabled and the poor. HART seems to think that patrons will buy into their drastic cuts, pitiable service, and poor design if they couch it in terms of “preparing for the future” and “improving service delivery and, in turn, the customer experience”. They want us to believe it will be better for us when they claim they have done a great deal of research and have large amounts of data while telling us it will not affect too many disabled patrons who will be removed from paratransit, yet cannot tell us how many patrons this affects. We all need to show up on Monday and make our voices heard. They call this proposal “Modernizing and Aligning for Excellence”. It is not modernizing; it is a step backward. It is not aligning; it is disconnecting. It is not excellent; it is pitiful! their new motto is “Wherever you’re going, HART gets you there!” Really? We also need to send our feedback to the board by emailing our comments to

Even if the cuts do not affect you today, imagine how they will affect you when you cannot get to where you need to be. Imagine if you want to go to the Social Security office and, when the flex bus shows up, you are the thirteenth passenger and cannot board the bus because it is filled to capacity. HART thinks it is reasonable for us to wait another hour in the 95-degree heat or inclement weather for the next bus which, by the way, might be full again! HART says that, if we want to go to TGH from south Westshore we can just take the northbound route 19 and “hop on the southbound trip of the route 19”. Really? When was the last time you simply got off one bus and “hopped on” another? All their language about how easy it will be and how well connected it will be is a farce! Please join us for some of what the NFB is known for: collective action!

Fraternally yours,

Marion Gwizdala

Community Input Sparks Revisions to Proposed October Transit System Redesign

Coming in October: A Transformational System Redesign that Prepares HART for the Future

Based on community feedback, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) staff has recommended multiple revisions to its 2018 proposed transit system redesign plan, which is intended to improve service delivery and, in turn the customer experience. The redesigned bus network will better serve today's customer and prepare the HART network to meet future needs.

The redesigned system is the result of careful data analysis and robust community outreach. Over the past 6 weeks, HART staff conducted over 40 outreaches, interacted with over 1,000 people and received nearly 500 written comments. Last week, approximately 150 people attended the HART public hearing and provided valuable input resulting in HART staff making reasonable revisions to the proposal being presented to the HART Board on August 7.

"We are grateful that the community provided meaningful and in-depth feedback. The assessment of the public comments was a crucial part of our process-collect public recommendations and input that has helped reshape the final redesigned bus network plan," explained HART CEO Katharine Eagan.

The fundamental strategy of the plan is to shift service from low-performing routes to areas where there is higher demand. The redesigned transit system will provide quicker trips to key destinations, and more frequency on core routes. Almost all our local routes will run seven days a week, weekend service will run from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and all current weekend late night routes will continue to operate until midnight.

The HART Board of Directors will vote on the final plan for the redesigned bus network plan at the Monday, August 7, 2017 board meeting. If approved, the proposal would be scheduled for implementation on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Please note: Due to an expected overflow crowd, the HART Board meeting scheduled for August 7,has been moved to County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 2nd Floor Board Room Tampa, FL 33602.

Can't make the meeting? It will be streamed LIVE <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001eYXysHj_bG0Zd3URqx4sQlyVH-aBnJ2efMSbwnOzYqZ1wYECopngEBdxizDha4A0EiICdoGCUq3r8iksljtHmbk2IUJbefe0HY3IgztoFQ4b5NsOPzFz8_D8dI5dLMtyhZ5UTJ2CAVVd3su_X15VGR10duM0aRFRytdyJffGcdATO0pkfd-DO1GMQzdy1l1OPY65j5joSh7YQ5DQ_fZbaxOK9dKMVxpr8oyXoYeTa1nsv6RFaKQwzUQVX1fxYPprkDZ4K8zCiJdUULgNL_zyS724y6tFGrQ-&c=9Tq6_Q_ah7lbU53MtFCBMfXEseHg8d7CagbVL_yE30ikkNqzWWDpXQ==&ch=hQTpTSMUKfTsI0HZ7PxMrbLL34gDulDfZySln4nHHRDr52ZYe9SbdQ==> here.
