Hey Jessie,
This is Paul Lewis and you probably don’t know me as I live in Fort Myers but I am a member, but a number of the members there can vouch for me by calling Miranda and Dan and Gloria and Barbara. I lived in Tampa in the 90s, from 94 to 2000 and the ophthalmologist I was seeing was name Burke. I’m I move back to Fort Myers in 2000, so I do not know if he still practicing or if he still lives in the area, but I do have retinopathy, and I had a successful reattachment of my right retina. Since moving back to Fort Myers, I have been a patient at Retina Consultants in Fort Myers and Bascom Palmer in Miami. Best of luck to you and I hope you find a physician that you will be comfortable with. I am also on United healthcare and I would suggest maybe check with them first and see which ophthalmologist that are in their program.
Take care, all good

He retired from ophthalmology when I was 19 and went strictly into surgery only. I miss him so much. Then when I know the doctor took over Dr. Gugino‘s office and change the name to NEWSOM ice. That doctor he was so rude. He got mad because my eyes don’t sit still. And he got so mad and told me why don’t I keep my eyes still. so after that, I stopped going to him. And I don’t recommend anybody that’s blind or visually impaired to go to him. But I truly understand. Because it’s important to have an ophthalmologist who understands just like any other doctor.

>> So I just switched my insurance plan for 2023 to UHC Medicare from Humana gold plus Medicare and I’m looking for recommendations for a new Ophthalmologist. I’ve been seeing Dr Cuva at Dr Prado’s office and while I really like him he’s not an ophthalmologist. I saw Dr Prado in July however, I didn’t like him at all I felt like he brushed me off like he just couldn’t wait to get me out the door. He also had a really bad bedside manner in my opinion. I’m looking for someone who has a really good bedside manner that is someone who is really nice and will treat you with respect and take the time to answer your questions no matter how small they are. I’m not sure if this will make a difference because a lot of ophthalmologists treat a variety of eye conditions but I have what’s called retinopathy of prematurity basically I was born about three months premature and my Retinas weren’t fully developed which caused my visual impairment. If anyone has any recommendations I’d really appreciate it that way I can look into them and call their office to see if they take my insurance and go see them in 2023.

>> P.S. This is a completely irrelevant to the email but I would prefer to be called Jess over Jessica. The reason is because I really feel like I’ve made a lot of friends through NFB and while I’m still trying to get to know everyone better I like being called Jess over Jessica because I’d like to think we are all friends at least that’s how I feel.
