 Detours possible in severe weather
During winter weather, TARC is a reliable transportation
option but in the most severe conditions, routes may be
detoured to avoid impassable streets and for safety
reasons. You can monitor detour information from
 TARC's web site homepage -
 http://www.ridetarc.org/
www.ridetarc.org - and clicking on the flashing
snowflake image. Detours that are most likely in severe
conditions are already posted. TARC detour information
is also available through media reports and by calling
 customer service at 585-1234.

 Winter Tips from TARC
 Safety Comes First
 - TARC operators are trained to handle adverse weather
conditions but will not travel roads that are unsafe.
 - If a route has steep hills or other potential dangers,
service may be detoured until the roads are cleared.
 - Snow and ice on the roads affects all traffic and buses
 may be delayed
 - Allow plenty of time and plan ahead

Here's how you can be prepared:
 - Visit
 http://www.ridetarc.org/
www.ridetarc.org or call 502-585-1234 to check
whether your bus line is on a snow route. You can also watch
for announcements on local TV and radio stations.
 - Dress warmly
 - If there's no traffic by your bus stop, walk to a stop on
a street where traffic is moving
 - If your stop is on a hill, walk to the bottom where the
 bus can safely stop.
 - Stand back from the curb until the bus comes to a
 complete stop

Service changes take effect Feb. 13
TARC will alter two major bus routes - #4-Fourth Street and
#18-Preston-18th - and make other service changes including
more frequent bus arrival times on heavily traveled #18 and
 Route #23-Broadway.

TARC adopted the planned service changes based on a public
review of proposals including public hearings. Some
proposals were altered based on public comments.

The routing changes on #18 and #4 will improve service
linking South Louisville, the University of Louisville
Belknap campus and the Louisville Medical Center.

A $1 million federal grant will provide funds to add more
buses on Route #18, which includes Preston and Dixie
highways, and Route #23, which covers Broadway and Bardstown
Road. The additional service will improve bus arrival
 times to at least every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. on
 weekdays.
