New express monthly passes on sale now

 

TARC's new express fare increase goes into effect Thursday, July 1. TARC is offering a discounted monthly express-fare pass for $80 that will save express-route

commuters up to $30 a month over paying the cash fare of $2.50.

 

The new express passes can be purchased beginning today at the following TARC ticket outlets:

. Fifth Third Bank - all area locations 

. Union Station - 1000 W. Broadway 

. Nia Travel and Jobs Center - 2900 W. Broadway 

. Louisville Free Public Library - 3rd & York

TARC express passes can also be 

ordered online.

 To order by mail, call 585-1234 to request a mail order envelope. 

 

There will be no express tickets for sale. However, two adult cash fare tickets can be used, or one adult cash fare ticket plus $1 cash. The tickets cost

$12.50 for a strip of 10.

 

Riders with Humana, University of Louisville and Metro Louisville IDs will have the additional express fare covered by their employer.

Dump the Pump Day is Thursday, June 17 

 

Thursday is national Dump the Pump Day and TARC riders will receive a "Dump the Pump" sticker showing that they did their part to save money and conserve

energy.

 

According to the American Public Transportation Association, public transit plays a major role in reducing our nation's dependence on foreign oil. Here's

the facts:

. Public transportation saves the U.S. the equivalent of 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually - more than three times the amount of gasoline refined

from the oil we import from Kuwait. 

. Public transportation use saves the equivalent of 900,000 automobile fill-ups every day. 

. According to the most recent Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) report on congestion, individuals who live in areas served by public transportation

save 398 million gallons of fuel annually.
