GOVERNOR'S COMMONWEALTH INSTITUTE
FOR PARENT LEADERSHIP

You are invited to attend this informational meeting to learn more about the
Governor's
Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership (GCIPL) which will be held in
partnership with
Kentucky Protection & Advocacy in Louisville next fall, 2013.
The institute consists of six days of training, (three, 2-day sessions),
from August to November.
Attendance for all 6 days is required. It is open to any parents or other
caregivers with children
in the public schools. Tuition, materials, overnight accommodations and
meals will be provided
at no cost to parents selected to attend the institute.
There is an application process to attend the institute. The December 6th
meeting is being held to
provide information and answer questions regarding the institute, the
application process and
why this training is important to YOU. Applications will be due in April
2013.
Participants selected for GCIPL will be trained in leadership and
communication skills, given
information that include achievement data, and provided an explanation of
Kentucky's public
education system. Training will enable participants to work more effectively
with other parents
in their communities to improve local schools and increase student
achievement by designing
and completing a project in their school or district. This GCIPL will also
include specific special
education advocacy information.
