Kathy, I don't believe you have to be working in order to receive O&M services but you do have to have an open case with the Office for the Blind. I believe you would need to call the Louisville office at 502-429-4460. As for transportation, I don't think you have many, if any options outside of the greater metropolitan areas; such as Louisville and Lexington. Unfortunately, in most other areas of the state, blind individuals have to rely on friends and family to get places. That's why I chose to reside in Louisville, rather than move back home to Franklin county. I value my independence and want to be able to go and come as I choose. I know that's not an option or even a priority for everybody though. However, Louisville isn't far at all from Spencer County. So if you eventually decided to move here, where you'd have more transportation options; you'd still be close to your family.

Best of luck,

Tonia

Subject: [Nfbk] couple questions

Good morning,

I am new to Kentucky, I live in Spencer County. First of all I will be praying for Buffa. It was sad what happened. Does anyone know if I need some cane travel service do I have to be working in oder to receive them? I noved here from Ohio, I know in Ohio if you are not working they will not help. I am 52 years old and trying to get things in order. I lost my husband back in 2012, so now I am trying to start a new life. Another question I have what about transportation for the blind, I did a search but can not find anything.

Thank for any help.

Kathy Pingstock
