With the NFB's stance being
"convenience"-- is there any expectation of SUPPORT from Leadership?

I think the major problem we have is with our respective cable companies not providing the service. There are those who have their TVs set properly to receive audio description and yet it doesn't come through. I invite Any of you who are interested in taking action to band together to see what can get done.

I’d have to agree as well. I think the NFB does agree it should be a right. Although I have been in some situations where the audio description gets in the way of the movie. However, I still believe that audio description should be a right. Sometimes, more often than not. We as blind people miss important content and therefore don’t completely understand what a particular movie is about. Think of it this way. If the NFB truly believes that audio description is a privilege than putting signs up on men’s and women’s restrooms is a privilege. Because we should automatically know which is the right one to go in. I know that at my college most of the restrooms for men are on the right, however in some buildings the restrooms are switched. Just my two cents on the subject.

The NFB has not thought this as a right? I feel it should be a right because it's accessing it. I cannot get all the information because of my hearing loss so audio description is necessary for me for most movies otherwise I miss a lot of what happens because I can't always understand the dialogue. That's just my thoughts on it.

I know in the past that the NFB’s position on audio description is that it is not a right but a convenience. I personally was neither for or against this position but greatly appreciated having the description when it was available.

However, I now find myself in the position where characters are interacting back and forth with text messages on a phone. Sometimes the show will actually zoom in to the conversation and if I walked up to the tv I “might” be able to read it but probably not fast enough. But most of the shows I am currently watching simply have the camera look over the person’s shoulder. And the worst part is that a whole conversation can happen in these text messages and at the end of the show it is obvious something important took place in that conversation but I have no idea what it is.

Just wondering if NFB has considered revising their position or at least taking a look at it again. Because the BIGGEST problem is not having access to audio description that is already provided. I have NEVER been able to get the description from insight/twc.
