Rest Area Commercialization Bill Is Back
Register Today for the Critical Issues Conference
Congressman Courtney has advised the National Office of the National Federation of the Blind that he intends to reintroduce his rest area commercialization bill shortly. He believes there is a strong need for commercialization and is getting a lot of pressure from within his state. Courtney, is a Democrat from Connecticut so he must be taken more seriously since the Democrats now control the House. We do not know if he has anyone t sponsor the bill on the Senate side.
This only heightens the importance of this year’s Critical Issues Conference being sponsored May 20-22 <x-apple-data-detectors://2> by the National Association of Blind Merchants, a division of the National Federation of the Blind. We will discuss the important challenges faced by the Randolph-Sheppard Program and look to the future. What are we going to do to preserve the greatest entrepreneurial program for people with disabilities ever created?
“This year, the morning we spend on The Hill will be more important than ever,” said NABM President Nicky Gacos. . ”If we don’t educate members of Congress about our Program, who will?”
Rest area commercialization is just one of the issues we will be discussing with Congress. There are serious challenges with the Department of defense’s noncompliance with the Act and we remain frustrated by the Department of Education that continues to make it more difficult on states to administer their programs effectively.
The 2019 NABM Critical Issues Conference will be held May 20-22,2019 <x-apple-data-detectors://3> , at the Crystal City Marriott at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. It is open to anyone interested in the future of Randolph-Sheppard.. If you wish to participate in the Congressional visits, go to https://blindmerchants.org/register-today-for-nabms-day-on-the-hill/ to register on-line. You can attend the conference without participating in the Hill visits. You can also book your room by calling 800-228-9290and asking for the National Association of Blind Merchants rate which is $229. If you have trouble getting a room, contact Barbara.Badger60 at gmail.com. The deadline for booking rooms is April 19 <x-apple-data-detectors://8> th <x-apple-data-detectors://8> . <x-apple-data-detectors://8>
