> 183rd FOUNDERS DAY PROGRAM
>
> The Kentucky School for the Blind Alumni Association cordially invites you to attend the Founders Day Program as we celebrate 183 years of the Kentucky School for the Blind providing quality educational services to blind and visually impaired students of Kentucky. This program will take place Thursday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the Samuel J. Richie Auditorium at the Kentucky School for the Blind.
> Tribute will be given to past librarians of KSB and their contribution to the school. The program will include a number of student presentations and musical performances. The program will also include musical performances by Oakley’s Hero, a threesome that include alumni Michael Davis and Abby “Cocanougher” Hodge.
> The Founders Day celebration will conclude with the presentation of the Paul J. Langan Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented to a former Kentuckian who must display qualities that have had a strong, positive influence on the lives of persons who are blind or visually impaired and KSB. The recipient of the Paul J. Langan Award this year is Mr. Micheal Hudson. Mr. Hudson made the American Printing House for the Blind museum an exemplary example of what an organization should be in preserving history and making historical items and information available to the public. Mr. Hudson was instrumental in the display of collections at APH. Two of these collections include the Helen Keller collection obtained from the American Foundation for the Blind and the KSB Alumni Association collection. Mr. Hudson recognized the talents of blind and visually impaired individuals. The Bards and Storytellers production plays featuring blind and visually impaired amateur actors was an example of his innovative and creative genius demonstrating to the public the capability of individuals with vision loss. Mr. Hudson rarely turned down an opportunity to share the knowledge he gained regarding the history of the blind, eagerly sharing his insight and knowledge through one on one conversation and as a willing speaker at numerous civic gatherings. A pink flowering eastern redbud tree will be planted in his honor.
