Board of Directors Meeting
Sunday, October 5, 2025
Virtual
Members Present:
Ashley Swafford - President
Katie Adkins - Vice President
Lonnie Swafford - Secretary
Scott Spaulding - Treasurer
Lauren Allen - Board Member
Sandra Williams - Board Member
* The meeting was called to order by the president at 7:03 PM.
* A motion was made to approve the meeting minutes from August 18 by
Katie and seconded by Lauren. The motion passed unanimously.
* A motion was made to table the treasurer report by Lonnie and
seconded by Katie. The board requests that the PNC bank account be reviewed
and the treasurer provides full accounting and reconcile all funds. The
motion passed unanimously.
* A motion was made by Sandra that the board authorize funds for
purchasing checks for the chapter. The motion was seconded by Lauren. The
motion was amended to authorize that the cost of checks should not exceed
$50.00. The amended motion was made by Lonnie and seconded by Katie. The
motion passed unanimously. Ashley advised Scott to order the checks without
delay so that we would have them in time to provide membership financial
assistance for the affiliate convention.
* Ashley reminded Scott to send the donation of $50.00 to St. Mark's
for allowing us to use the facility for the white cane day event.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Game Night:
* Ashely reports about thirty-five people attended the event.
* The expenses for pizza, drinks and supplies totaled $247.62.
Health Fair:
* Cathy reports the event was well attended and Ashley thanked her and
Priya for their assistance.
Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser:
* Ashley advised the flyer has been advertised and we are on schedule
for the event October 8.
* Priya has suggested preparing packets with the auction letter,
flyer, and information about the white cane awareness day event. Lonnie will
work toward getting the packets ready.
Fall Festival:
* We are scheduled to participate in the fall festival on October 11.
* Katie reports eight people have signed up to assist.
* A motion was made for the purchase of ten boxes of fruit snacks not
to exceed $125.00 by Scott and was seconded by Sandra. The motion passed
unanimously.
* A motion was made to approve spending $25.00 to purchase other
supplies by Katie and seconded by Lauren. The motion passed unanimously.
OFB Event:
* Ashley reports that we will be present at the OFB Senior summit on
October 14 from 2:30-4:30.
White Cane Awareness Day:
* Ashley advised we are on schedule to be present at the white cane
awareness day at St. Mark's on October 15.
* Lauren will purchase Two gift cards, one for $10.00 and one for
$15.00 as previously discussed and approved.
Giving Project:
* Ashley has confirmed our giving project will be to donate items to
Roo's Wish and the event will take place at the home of the president on
Friday, November 14 6:00-9:00 PM.
* Attendees are asked to bring appetizers or desserts.
Auction:
* The annual chili supper and auction will take place on Saturday
March 7 at the American Legion-KY Post 0180, 4610 Shelbyville Rd. with
Travis serving as auctioneer and Phil assisting with the event.
NFB and TARC:
* Katie advised she has emailed a proposed phased plan approach to the
affiliate president, and we are waiting on a response from the national
office for guidance and next steps.
* We have not yet received a response from TARC to inquiries about the
recent release of the new network.
* The Metro Disability Coalition, MDC has asked us to attend a meeting
on Saturday, October 18 from 2:00-4:00 with TARC.
* Katie has scheduled a meeting for the community to attend via Zoom
on October 19 at 7:00 PM to provide a general outline of the changes and to
answer questions. She asked that questions be submitted ahead of time to her
so she may have an opportunity to research and provide information. The

NEW Business:
Chapter Donations to The Affiliate:
* Ashley has advised that the national office is requesting that each
chapter and division consider making a donation to the affiliate.
* A motion was made by Lonnie that we donate $200.00 to the affiliate
and seconded by Scott. Katie amended the motion to increase the donation
amount to $250.00, and it passed unanimously.
Legislative Update:
* Katie is asking everyone please send emails or call their respective
representatives to push for the passage of legislation supporting permanent
Medicare Telehealth options and to support the non-visual medical device
access act.
* Katie asks that those sending emails to please copy her, per request
of the national office.
The board closed the meeting and went into executive session at 7:58 PM.
Financial Assistance for The Affiliate Convention and TARC and GLCB
partnership was discussed.
* The next meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, November 2 at 7:00
PM via Zoom.
The motion was made for adjournment by Katie and seconded by Lonnie. Hearing
no further business, the meeting was adjourned by the president at 8:24 PM.
