On this same note, please know, that as part of their training, BISM students are to do all of the things listed in Melissa's email independently. They will be working under sleepshade throughout convention locating various places and meeting rooms. So, if at some point, you try to help a student and they say "no thank you' or some variation, please don't take it personally, know that they are working to figure things out for themselves. Even if they appear frustrated or lost, let the student problem solve their way out of it. Your support in believing that he or she can do it independently is more than we can ask for.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at aphelps at bism.org. We have to remember that when a student is in training they are learning how to do things independently as a blind person. Our NFB philosophy is a cornerstone to our success and so are you!

Thanks,
Amy

Subject: [Nfbmd] Convention Help Needed!

Hello everyone,

I will need a bit of help from anyone arriving at the hotel before 8 PM on July 2nd. At about 8:00 PM, our NFB affiliate bus will be arriving at the hotel. We need help with sorting luggage, showing members where to get in order to check in, etc. All help will be appreciated. If anyone is able to lend a hand, please email me at president at nfbmd.org and give me your cell phone number, if you have one, so I will be able to get a hold of you when the bus arrives. Eight PM is only an approximate time of arrival.

Thank you,

Melissa
